Sometimes Tweets Do Come True
Over the past four years, I’ve extolled the virtues of travel, of seeing new places, meeting new people, and trying new things. Outside of The Suitcase Scholar, I’ve posted and tweeted travel longings–wish I wasn’t here, I’d write, on rainy Tuesdays while sitting at my old desk in my old classroom. I’ve driven down Main Street in my own town countless times and wished I could just…keep…driving.
And this month, that’s kind of what I did.
In the last thirty days, I’ve driven approximately 2,813 miles. Google Maps tells me that this is a little over 43 hours, but Google Maps hasn’t met 95 South during rush hour; I’d round that up to at least 55 hours of time-on-the-road. I’ve been to or through six states and two provinces, in three smallish towns, and on one round trip flight. I was home for eleven of the thirty days in the month of June, during which I finished out my 10-year teaching career, watered my plants, and took apple dumplings to my grandparents.
I took 1,380 photos with my camera and 571 with my iPhone. I made four new friends.
Wish I wasn’t here, I tweeted that dreary Tuesday months ago. I think my next tweet should be wish I had a million dollars.
If you’re wishing- make that 2 or 3….. or 10 million. These days money goes VERY quickly when you travel. As I’m sure you know. Even if the travel is on your employer’s dime. But I am so happy for you. I just know that you are really going to enjoy your new job. You get to travel and meet people… and still be ‘involved’ in education! Told you this time last you I had ‘tingling in my thumbs’ (just like Anne)that good things were happening for you.
Sorry NC isn’t having better weather for your visit to Raleigh this week. But at least it’s not like last year when we had SOOO many days in the 100s and NO rain. Hope you are finding lots of fun things to do there in your time off. I know there are some decent museums there. If you have time, maybe you can detour on your way home and visit one or more of the wineries either in NC or along the Virginia border. You are not too far from them right now. Let me know how they are. Haven’t made it there yet myself!!! LOL!!!
Honestly, I’d be happy with a few thousand right now. My bank account is getting scary! Ha!
And thanks, but the weather isn’t bothering me. I’m inside all day and all night; I’m in training for 12 hours a day. So no exploring of Raleigh for me. Ah well. Maybe next time. (Or possibly not even then…)
